Pig iron bars can be created at a smelter by a dwarf with the furnace operating labor activated.
The recipe for pig iron is: one iron bar, one flux material and one fuel create one pig iron bar. Note that pig iron and steel both still need coke or charcoal in the case of a magma smelter.
Pig iron is a component in the manufacture of steel. Pig iron cannot be made into crafts, furniture, armor, or weapons, though pig iron bars may be installed as vertical or horizontal bars as normal.
