A random little experiment I conducted to determine how DF's colors/background colors work. Raws below:

Notes

  • Objects with one color, like blocks, ignore the background color - for example, blocks made of STONE_550 and STONE_541 look the same as blocks made of STONE_500.
  • Objects with [INVERTED_TILE], like minecarts, use the material's foreground color without brightness as the background color. STONE_550 and STONE_551 minecarts appear identical. However, if the material's foreground color is between 8 and 15, the color does include brightness.
